    Single people give married friends tidbits from their sexual escapades.


    tidbit : a choice of morsel, as of gossip or food

    (맛있는 음식의)작은 한입 / 재밌는 이야기 거리

    escapade : an escapade is an exciting and rather dangerous adventure

    무모한 장난(행위)







    Maybe he wanted to show it off. Like a monkey.


    show off : to try to impress other people with your abilities, wealth, intelligence , etc.

    으시대다, 자랑하다


    He likes to show off how well he speaks French.

    그는 프랑스어를 얼마나 잘하는지 자랑하고 싶어한다.







    That'll do.


    that will do : 1. used to acknowledge something as being sufficient

    충분하다, 그정도면 되다.

    2. used to order somebody to stop doing or saying something

    (충분히 했으니/들었으니)그만해


    여기서는 1번의 의미로 사용되었다.

    후추를 그자리에서 갈아서 샐러드에 뿌려주는데 '그정도면 충분해요'라는 뜻으로 사용되었다.


    A: Do you think we need more chairs for the conference?

    회의때 의자가 더 필요할까?

    B: No. I think that'll do.

    아니 내 생각엔 충분할꺼 같아.








    When someone gets married, all bets are off.


    all bets are off : used to say that if a particular event happens, then your current prediction, agreement, deal etc, will no longer apply

    계획이 무효화 되다 / 백지화 되다


    Of course all bets are off when Peter suddenly shows up.

    피터가 나타났을때 모든것은 당연히 무산되었다.







    It's out-and-out battle.


    out-and-out : complete, thoroughgoing

    완전히, 철저하게


    What she said was an out-and-out lie.

    그녀가 말한건 전부(하나부터 열까지)가 거짓말 이었다.







    Let's get it over with.


    get something over with : to do or finish, especially said of something unpleasant

    (불쾌하지만 해야할 일을)해 내다[완료하다]


    He didn't want to go to the doctor for his shots, but he decided it would be better just to get it over with.

    그는 주사를 맞으러 가기 싫었지만 그냥 끝내버리는게 나을꺼라고 결정했다.







    Meanwhile, across town things were winding down.


    wind down : to relax after a period of stress or excitement

    긴장을 풀다


    It takes a while for me to wind down after work.

    일 후에 긴장을 푸는데 시간이 걸린다.







    to bend your ear about my work at the firm.


    bend someone's ear (about something) : 고민을 (긴시간) 털어놓다.


    Don't let her band your ear about how overworked she is.

    그녀가 긴 시간 당신에게 얼마나 초과근무를 하고있는지에 대해서 늘어놓지 않게 하세요.
